I used up all my sick days...

The Bitbook (like Facebook or Twitter) of the Bitizens from Tiny Tower, the iPhone game am still at, is quite entertaning. This for example, is hilarious:
"I used up all my sick days, so I'm calling in dead."

A day of catching up

I was very much on my feet today, but I have not been well these 2 weeks and hence it has been tiring. Up and down and in and out attending meetings and a dim-sum lunch with three of my ex-collegues. Definitely a day of catching up.

Movies Day

I had the whole morning to myself with Calvin off camping and hubby at the golf course. I ended up paying back some sleep debt and watched two movies.

Tangled

I really loved this animated movie. Great script and storyline. The lantern scene made me cry!

From Prada to Nada

I have a soft spot for rom-coms and even though this one has a regrettable title and some scenes that makes no sense, I still enjoyed it. And Camilla Belle is just too gorgeous.

Our Levels of Energy

How would you draw out your level of energy of the week?

The level of energy between my colleague and I starts at opposing sides, my Monday at the bottom and hers at the top, meeting at the same level on Wednesday and back to opposing sides on Fridays, mine at the top whilst she would have spent all her energy by then. So we complement each other pretty well, energy wise.

I should be loving it today with my energy up but not today. The office is super quiet with majority of people on leave due to the school holidays wrapping up this weekend and I am bored. On top of it I am feeling sick and I am still having the headache which started this morning when I woke up.

It is not a good day…but all is good. No complaints. Just bored.

Tête-à-tête

I haven't had a good long chat with my sister-in-law in too long awhile. It was pleasant and nice to catch up.

Movies, movies, movies

Continued my lazying away today ... which is rare lately and therefore deserved! according to me, that is. I watched 3 movies - from the collection of DVDs I bought but never watched.

Adventureland
I won't recommend this if you can't stand expletives - this movie is full of it. And the plot isn't so great either.

Music and Lyrics
You may not understand it but I have watched this at least 4 times! Twice in Astro but missing the front, both times and twice on DVD. I am one person who can watch a favourite movie many times over, savouring it differently at different times. I love the plot, the songs and the actors. My favourite scene is when Hugh Grant sang Drew Barrymore the song - Don't Write Me Off Just Yet.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape
This DVD was on sale and I thought it might not be that good but I got it anyway because Johnny Depp is one of my favourite and he is one cool actor. I finally watched it today and it was exceptional. I soon checked Rottentomatoes.com and found that the 1993 movie is rated at 90% fresh. It has a simple plot but the acting is really good. Young Leonardo diCaprio got nominated for an Oscar from this movie - he gave a stunning performance as Gilbert's (Depp) mentally retarded brother. But I really hated the Mary Steenburgen scenes. Had them fast forwarded.

I have two more DVD I have not watched -- Donnie Darko and The Cider House Rules. I'll wait for another lazy day, but it must be a happy one, because I think I'd need it to watch Donnie Darko.

Our night out

There is a PC Fair in KLCC and so we decided to drop in for a visit. We kinda regretted it because the crowd was too much for us.

But I managed to get these shots of the Petronas Twin Towers. Too bad I did not have my Canon 40D with me, but as this person once said, the best camera is the camera you have with you!

It is always warm and humid here but it is still nice to sit and enjoy the open air with great scenery and sounds.

With the crowd, we are glad we are getting out of there!

What's wrong with me?

What does it say about you when you keep running out of patience and snap at everyone who crosses your path?

Down girl, down.

Useless but entertaining

Block Breaker Deluxe 2         Bejeweled® 2

I had purchased these 2 games on my iPhone. And I kind of wasted the day away playing them. But I am entitled to a break once in awhile :)

Coffee Grouses

I spent the whole day in a meeting room at work today, where there's a free flow of coffee, tea, and Coke. Coffee consist of the Nescafe-kind served through a coffee machine. I just wonder if the Nescafe people have ever tasted their own coffee served in these machines before - I really cannot stand it. I squeeze my face in disgust every time I take the first sip and as such I have given up on it. I have settled for hot cups of Peach & Passion Ahmad Tea or a cold can of the good ol' Coke.

But this is my favourite: Gloria Jean's Caramelatte.

Pearlie is having a migraine and so please leave her alone

I woke up with a very bad migraine this morning and I am now still in bed, not sleepy at all but head heavy and badly aching.

With nothing else better to do, I started catching up with blogs via RSS on my phone.

Times are so different these days compared to the good ol' days. If you have been around long enough, you'd have had penpals, the snail mail kind. And to catch up with friends, there'd be the good ol' dial telephone, the turning kind.

But I'm here instead reading up the latest with my friends and new found blogger-friends, with some I've "known" for more than 3 years now (I'm referring to you, Julia ;)

Oh, how the times have changed. We no longer write letters. We publish blogposts. It is no longer personal to recipients (though there's still the email) but open to the public, to whomever who'd care to take a read. And we "reply" with "comments".

Then there's the different breed between Bloggers and Facebookers. Which are you? Or rather, which is more you? And why?

I am not really into Facebooking but I'm there because I came to a can't-beat-'em-so-join-'em stage.

I'm still not active there, only checking in once every month, more frequent now with the FB app in my phone. I suppose I'm less there because I prefer to be more thought out than fleeting. I would rather spend half an hour, though sometimes it can take more than one, to write out what's in my mind or what's been happening in my day or in my life, on a more serious note; rather than spending one minute to type (Pearlie is) having a migraine and so please leave her alone.

Don't you see? I've spent the last half an hour and 8 paragraphs just to do that, to tell you that Pearlie is having a migraine and so please leave her alone.

Ah! Bloggers.

Scarcity of time?

I have been sleeping early and rising early with not much time to do anything else. But I got to visit a newspaper printing hub today, though it wasn’t running and so I don’t get to see all the action.

Long Break Day 1
It Begins

Yay! My long awaited long break is finally here. It started with some housekeeping work. Then I drove Calvin to his Malay tuition class. Did some shopping. Pick up Calvin and drove him to church for his fancy dress competition rehearsal (to be held during our Christmas event on the 24th). Went for the final practice of Night of Miracles.

It was a long day but lovely.

Rainy days and Mondays

Rainy days and Mondays off are amongst the little treasures in life.

My other little treasures include:
* a child who smiles at me
* a parking lot right there in front of me
* a friend calling in for lunch
* a good book
* a comment in my blog
* a real snail-mail letter from a friend
* a heart-to-heart email from a friend
* a phone-call from a dear friend
* a snuggle deeper into bed on a rainy morning
* a good many more

What are yours?

Splendidly Mundane Sunday

It was quite a mundane day today, which was good.

My PC was infected with a bad strain of virus and I had to leave it aside to be fixed when I get back to the office tomorrow. That was good – it meant some time off from the can’t-do-with-it-can’t-do-without-it internet. As such, I have the whole day today doing nice stuff.

I took one of the Foundational Class this afternoon, going through with the class briefly on Church History. We had a good one and a half hour of discussion right from the Great Commission, into the Dark Ages, the Reformation, the Great Evangelical Movement, zeroing into the spread of Methodism in Malaysia.

Then I stayed awhile in church helping the youth in their practice for their Christmas play, helping some of them with the songs.

When I got home, I even managed a nap, something I usually don’t have time for.

After dinner, I managed to catch Hairspray on TV. I loved it. Though I was quite disturbed with John Travolta being mom Edna, I really liked Nikki Blonsky as bubbly Tracy.

I had a splendid mundane Sunday.

Still Life, Dutch House and 148

We are having a day off today being a public holiday.

First, my son took me to Washington's National Art Gallery, particularly the NGA Kids, The Art Zone. It has so many amazing interactive stuff that I got quite hooked into. You should try it out too! There's the fun and interactive Dutch House but not as good as Still Life, in my opinion.

Still Life
This lets you create interactive art that mirrors the paintings of the old masters. Mix everyday objects and painted elements while experimenting with composition, scale, and perspective.

These two are just my beginnings! There are so many possibilities!

Dutch House
In Holland during the 17th and 18th centuries, the "poppenhuis" or dollhouse was an adult diversion. Paintings by well-known artists such as Pieter de Hooch, Gerard ter Borch, Jan Steen, and Johannes Vermeer spring to life as you mix and match colorful characters, create decorative objects, and explore the kitchen, living quarters, artist's studio, and courtyard of this make-believe Dutch house.

The options are limited, and here are my kitchen and courtyard.

Test Your Colour IQ

Then SH got very excited over this website because he scored 148 points on a Colour IQ test, which perplexed me because he is in fact colour blind. So Calvin began his test and he completed it with a score of 22. Huh? So I read the text only to find out that the lower the score the better, with zero being the best! We had a good laugh over it. I scored 10.

We are calling daddy 148 from now on.

p/s I did 3 more. And I've had my fill ... for now.

Dreary and dull

I am extremely tired. I have been taking on things with reluctance but did them anyway with a sense of duty and responsibility. I have not had time to meditate much on Scriptures and I am therefore thankful with the few mp3 sermons I have with me. They at least keep me in check and they engulfed me with the truth even though at times I may be not really listening hard.

I look forward to times when I can again spend hours on end just to mull on a verse or two, and then blog about it.

Careless

I not only nearly lost my mobile phone, I nearly ran over it with my car today.

Actually, I think I did run over it, looking at its poor and dismal condition right after I picked up from the muddy roadside.

I was late for a meeting and in the rush I did not realise that my mobile phone slipped and fell as I got out of my car. There were no parking spaces available where I need to be and so I parked nearby at the side of a small lane right underneath a flyover. It was dark and damp. The phone did not even make a slight thud of a sound when it fell.

Amazingly, it stayed there in that position for 5-hours while I was in a meeting only to have me run over it while deciding what else to do.

It is working fine now – if not in tip top condition. Here’s to Sony Ericsson. Next to Nokia, they have proven themselves to produce hardy mobile phones for accident-prone people like me.

And of course I thank God that I am spared from losing it. The thought of forking out RM1,000 to get a comparable new unit made me cringe.

I need to be more careful with it.

Gridlocked

I was the designated driver today, driving Calvin here and there for his activities. That is normal except that I kept getting stuck - traffic was bad wherever I went.
