8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

I like the way that the Amplified expounds on verse 9:
ReplyDeleteIf we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
As we walk in the light, confessing the sins we know of, He is faithful to cleanse us of the sins we are not even aware of.. now that is good news :)
Thanks Bob. I am not too familiar with the Amplified Bible, though I have encountered it here and there. I should take a closer look at it.
