I am back into reading Terrien yesterday and completed the Introduction. I also read up his commentary on Psalm 26 and 27. I have posted before on Psalm 27, so it was a revision, albeit a needed one.
Terrien provided in his footnote a book reference with the title: The Courage to Doubt. Such a clever title! In a conversation with a friend recently, this exact topic came up. It certainly takes courage to doubt God and to doubt the faith, and done properly could bring about growth in faith and belief, but not without its risks.

ReplyDeleteFirst, this is actually something I have been thinking a lot about lately. I posted yesterday about where I am seeing myself spiritually. For the first time I do not see myself as a "baby-christian" anymore (as I also said, I could be wrong), but I don't quite classify myself as a "mature-christian" either. However, I credit wrestling through doubt, not necessarily of God, but of His good intentions for my life, as the spring board into my christian adolescence. We are admonished throughout scripture to perservere - and without doubt, how would we get the opportunity?
Second, the picture you selected with this post was possibly taken by a distance relative of my husband in Austria. What a small world!

ReplyDeleteAmen, Maeghan. John Fisher wrote a book called something like, "Real Christians [Don't] Ask Why," where the 'don't' was scratched out.
I was all over that.
It's all about the risks. Love that never takes a chance goes stagnant fast.

ReplyDeleteYes, that is definitely so and thanks for reminding me. I need to be reminded of that today because of something that happened and something that didn't happen a I have hoped. I have to just trust in Him that He is perfect, period.

Really? Yup, through blogging, I sense that the world is getting smaller. I use pictures from sxc.hu - great photographers and picture there.
