It's all a dream

I had so much discussion and talk about cheap air fares these days that I had a weird dream last night.

I dreamt I boarded a plane and found that I was in business class, with bigger and posh seats.

But the weird part is that the plane windows were glass windows from end to end, and they were all down. We were flying across the sea, and we were asked to look out the plane and search for a missing person in the sea.

I know. Ridiculous.

But a dream is a dream is a dream.

Ahhh! Nightmares!!!

I had a nightmare last night and was woken up from it at 2am. It was quite vivid about a murder or some killings.

And thankfully I've forgotten the details of it.

But why do we have nightmares?

This webpage looks helpful and the only reason that seemed relevant to me was the worry one.

I had a fitful sleep as a result, with a few more dreams that I can recall in bits and pieces, with the final one an enactment of a meeting I was suppose to have later in office today!

Sigh...I need to really catch up on my sleep tonight, but it will have to be after 12:30am--after all the fireworks die down from the ushering in of the 15th day of the Chinese New Year or Chap Goh Meh.

I can already hear the fireworks and the night is still young.

Why am I having such morbid dreams?

I think there is something wrong with me.

I keep having vivid dreams about people dying. I had a dream a couple of nights ago about the genocide of the Rohingya people, that they were massacred and buried in a field.

And then I had a dream about a murder crime case where the man murdered his wife drowning her in the bathroom and was about to murder his sons.

I have not been watching news or crime dramas for the longest time but why am I having such vivid but morbid dreams?

Oh dear.

The one quote that baffles me

I began reading the book I bought yesterday, Daughters of the Dragon by William Andrews and at the beginning, right in Chapter 3, I read something I can't figure out, however hard I tried to wrap my head round it, which I did try the whole day today.

"...dreams are who you are when you’re too tired to be yourself."

What is the meaning of that? What am I when I'm too tired to be myself?

I still can't make out what's it's suppose to mean. Can you?

How a dog I don't have stopped a break-in to my house

Someone tried to break into our house at 5:45 this morning. But we got down just in time to avert it. My hubby got down to switch the porch lights back on, and the perpetrator ran away.

This was how they tried to break in. I thank God we managed to stop them in time.

But how I was woken up to realize what was happening is quite amazing I think. And I firmly believe that it was my God who woke me up to take care of the situation before it was too late.

And with that, God certainly has a good sense of humour. Here's what happened:

Firstly, we don't have a dog. Having a dog in such a circumstance will be useful but we don't.

But in that exact same time that morning, I dreamt I had one and it was barking frantically outside my house. I got down to open the door and when I did, my dog flew through the door railings towards my head and because of that I woke up with a jump.

That was when I heard the grating noise downstairs and woke my hubby to check it out.

Now you tell me God did not send me a dream dog to wake me up to chase the perpetrator away.

And maybe it's time to get a real dog.

A lucid dream I had

I had a good experience of a lucid dream last night. We had quite an intensive meeting yesterday and there was much to do.

In my dream, I was aware that I was dreaming and I dreamt of the stuff that I need to do and how I need to do it. There wasn't any details to pick up, but I dreamt of a good general idea on how I should get on with what was due.

Wouldn't it be nice to have lucid dreams more often.

Free Fall Dream!

It's weird that I keep having vivid dreams lately, and since I've been sharing them here, I might as well add this one I just had.

My hubby told me this morning as we were waking up from our slumber that I had screamed in my sleep, which woke him up.

I actually screamed? I told him that I jumped off a plane in my dream!

It was very vivid and in full colour. I was in an airplane (again). It was flying over the sea. The door was opened and someone was edging me towards it and told me to jump as part of a test I'm taking. I was scared and held back but the person coaxed and nudged me, and I jumped--no parachutes or boards. Just me.

This must be when I screamed. I tightened my body, legs together and arms tight at my side, straight down, waiting to hit the water. I can feel the air rushing up as I fell. But I never touched the water.

Instead, I found myself floating in a carnival and stopped at a booth where two clown-like contraptions were offering some kind of sweet buns and I took one to try.

Then I woke up.

I immediately bought the dream book I posted couple of days ago. I'm eager to get into the why in all these dreams I'm having. It will be interesting to find out. I'm not into the secrets and the meaning and the subconscious mind--I don't believe dreams are secret messages. I'm into learning about the science of it all--the why's and the how's.

The secret of dreams

I just had a really interesting and vivid dream: one of the rare few that I really remember (other than the one that I dreamt I died that I blogged a few days ago).

In my dream, I was in a posh but abandoned mansion. There were two other persons with me, and one of them brought with him his personal chef, and we had a really scrumptious meal. I then got out of the mansion and roamed around and found a white cave made of white rock salt that was used as a garage. Next, I left the house and got onto a horse to take me to another place but soon found that the horse was wooden. I got down and started walking and found myself in a picturesque town in India.

What is it about dreams? Some message from God? Inner hidden or secret desires? A peep into our subconscious mind?

This gave me a good topic to look for a popular-science book to check out and I found this:

The Mind at Night, the New Science of How and Why We Dream
by Andrea Rock

It really looks interesting and promising and I've just downloaded a preview copy from kobobooks.com. If the preface and the first few pages of its first chapter turned out to be a good read, I will buy a copy and jump in immediately. And of course there will be a book review if it is good.

Distant and Dream and Dead

Today is Holy Saturday and we all need to wait on God and meditate on his forgiving and steadfast love.

But I must admit, I have not been spending time with my God lately. This Lent, Holy Week and Easter season is one where I feel quite distant from him.

And I dreamt that I died. I was in a flying contraption and it could not take off and it crashed and I died. Even though I do not have an actual phobia of flying but even before the many recent plane disasters, I did not and do not like being in a plane.

There isn't much of a connection here I know but this is what marked my day today. The fact that I feel distant from God and I dreamt that I'm dead.

Interpreting dreams?

Since reading about Jung, I began to pay more attention to my dreams. I used to have an opinion that dreams are nothing but night escapades for the mind, and nothing more than that.

However, I am quite convinced now that they do represent something. I agree to a certain degree with Jung that dreams represent our inner and outer aspects of our lives of which we are not consciously aware of. And so far, I've actually interpreted two of my own dreams and one of my good friend's.

In Scripture, we find that God uses dreams to speak to his people, to prophecy and also as a form of revelation. Whilst I believe God is still doing that -- I have heard of testimonies that some people get converted through dreams from God -- it has become rarer among us for God to prophecy through us in dreams.

But dreams still form a very important part of us as individuals. We are not aware of our unconscious mind, and it is in our dreams that it relates to us in symbols.

The three dreams that I have interpreted, I did it by relating them to our personal experiences and what certain symbols may mean to us, to see what we need to learn and unlearn from it. I do not refer to archetypes, or universal interpretation of symbols, though sometimes they may help. To me, what we dream is personal to us, unless we have a reason to believe that God is prophesying through us, and if and when that happens, we need to compare it with Scripture.

Anyway, there is this one dream of mine I still have no idea what it means, I dreamt I was in the departmental store trying on a pair of plain black shoes. When I remove it to be tried by someone else, they had hideous black spikes jutting out all over. I then walked to the other stores but they were all out of shoes. It's a weird dream, and I've given up trying to interpret it. Moreover, I've forgotten the context or what was I experiencing when I had that dream and so it is not important anymore, unless of course it is a premonition from God, which is exactly what my friend's dream was. Interpreting that one was downright amazing.

So, I understand some, I don't understand some. It's alright, but all in all, the biggest problem is still remembering them at all!
