Reluctant joy?

Have you ever been so disappointed with someone that you decided, against the will of God, that you will forever harbour ill-feelings against the person, only to find that you just can't do it for long? Somehow or rather the joy of the Lord will evade into your heart and you will be happily speaking to the person as if nothing had happened. Don't try this at home.

Habakkuk 3:18-19
18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

  1. HOnestly, it's tough!! I've been through that for 2 years until today, I only could psycho myself to say hello and joke superficially to the person but kept quiet most of time not to talk personal things to him as I felt so hurt and wanted to get the msg across to him that it was really hurt what he did in the past to me. It's hard to imagine to think as if nothing had happened!! Whenever I meet the person, it reminded me about the past hurt. How not to remember and treated as if nothing had happened!! Daily I asked God to fill me with the Spirit in relating to the person but failed most of the time. So, for the sake of obedience to God, I only could psycho myself and make effort to self control the feelings to love the person but try to avoid as far as I could or hoping for opportunity that one day, he would ask what happened..and there I could release. Wow...dunno how u manage to go through that - filled with joy and treated as if nothing had happened in the past- how he/she hurt u in one way or another!!???

  2. Yes, it is hard. I didn't quite say that I have forgotten about what has happened. I said "as if" nothing has happen. There is still some hurtful feelings that would not go away. It is just that I just cannot stay angry for long. The standard is seventy times seven. Hard but a command nonetheless.

  3. hi chee keat and pearlie,

I agree it's tough. You want to get even and the Lord said vengeance is his. You want to hit back and Jesus said turn your other cheek. You want to yell back but proverbs reminds you about a gentle voice. You want to nurse a great big whooping grudge and the Holy Spirit reminds you about forgiving.

    Where got fun?

  4. Haha ... Alex, you finally gave the game away!

But seriously, it is not easy but still we need to actively work on it to have a forgiving spirit, and a real one at that, not a put on. Tidak adil dan susah tapi perlu.
